Fastelavn

This weekend is fastelavn which is a scandinavian tradition to usher out the long dark days of winter and hasten springtime.Tradionally revellers would beat a barrel until it broke releasing a black cat to symbolize another year of truimph over the winter season. These days the cat is replaced by a cardboard cutout and is placed in the barrel with loads of sweets which eventually fall out as the kids take it in turns to whack it with a baseball bat. The kids dress up in fancy dress and there is prizes for best king and queen in dif ages and best fancy dress in dif ages. Kelsey is going as rapunzel and has been busy over the last week using my wool to make a long hair piece! Joe was going as a punk which was going to put together on friday, and Myles wanted to go as a king, so this morning came up with the inspiration of King of hearts and have been painting a big playing card. Now Joe has changed his mind and wants to go as the King of spades so will have to paint another tomorrow!
